Craigslist
comes to St. Louis
Craigslist.com, a bulletin board-style Web site
offering job prospects as well as postings offering a wide range
of goods and services, has added St. Louis to the list of cities
it serves. The site, founded in 1995 by Craig Newmark,
has become one of the most effective job sites in the San Francisco
Bay area. Over the years the site has grown to include many major
U.S. cities. Although it has become very popular, Craigslist.com
remains no-frills and non-commercial, with no banner advertising.
bigwidesky
A new interactive marketing company was launched in St. Louis
on Jan. 2, and its name reflects its novel approach to project
management. bigwidesky provides marketing services
to small and mid-sized companies by matching projects with talent
drawn from a national hub of freelancers. By creating a collective
environment, independent producers can take advantage of a supportive
and creative community of marketing peers. Under this “free
agent” business model, bigwidesky does not hire salespeople,
but instead pays commissions to anyone who brings in work. Dan
Klein, president of bigwidesky, says, “It’s
about matching up the right experience and the right style for
a client’s project.”
