Janice O’Malley of Ballwin has been given the Caregiver Recognition Award from St. Andrew’s At-Home Services. The program recognizes individuals who provide outstanding ongoing care to older adults.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri recognized six outstanding volunteers before a crowd of thousands at a December St. Louis Blues game. Jeff Tank, Elizabeth Jenkins, Taylor Crask, Diane Stanfield, Debra Davis and Natalie Lannert received their awards in a 40-person luxury box donated by the Blues for the event.
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Foundation has approved a $70,000 grant to Concordia Seminary for its Congregational Support Initiative. The grant is part of the foundation’s new Lutheran Seminary Grant Program.

Five area Krispy Kreme stores have joined together to raise more than $3,000 for the Clown Docs at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. The trained clowns — most are also professionals — use humor to meet the social and emotional needs of patients and their families.

The 16th annual Budweiser “Guns ’n Hoses” boxing matches between area police officers and firefighters raised more than $163,000 for the St. Louis Backstoppers, an organization that provides financial assistance to the families of officers lost in the line of duty. The event, sponsored by Grey Eagle Distributors, drew a crowd of 17,293 to the Savvis Center, where the firefighters reclaimed the trophy with a 12-5 victory.
Covenant House Missouri has received $25,000 from the Missouri Housing Trust Fund for its Rights of Passage program. The program provides stable, home-like environments for area youth, ages 17 to 21, as they learn the skills needed for independent living.
The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) has received $10,000 from Mercy Health Plans for its 2004 Back-To-School Store. The project outfits hundreds of lowincome children for the first day of school to help generate positive selfesteem and an enthusiasm for learning.
